MICH DILLON

As an artist wood, rope, found objects and natural elements allow for me to navigate memories, explore relationships by excavating brutal truths, renewing commitment, and creating necessary connection through discourse with the viewer. My work speaks to the overwhelming coexistence of my unseen connections to systemic binaries and patterns in the world. I stack, arrange, and reshape wood as an attempt to bind and heal the separateness of my reality and as an act of vulnerability and affirm that they may co-exist together. I examine the patterns already existing in the biological world as a metaphor for how humans organize their lives – whether natural or artificial – there is often a duality. I embrace and reject statistics and emotions that co-exist in my every moment, informing and erasing, validating, discrediting, and creating experiences of solidarity and estrangement in my life as a Biracial Black man in America. Because I grew up navigating life between worlds, my experience has constantly been fractured and complex. I connect, tie, support and bind materials with charged history as an act of liberation. Each movement creates an imprint revealing an opportunity for a new understanding of shared realities, which are most frequently truths deeply embedded into our day-to-day lives.
